I was deemed high-risk at Amsterdam Airport due to Ken Agyapong’s false accusations

The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has revealed how he was embarrassed at Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands after being declared a high-risk passenger on a flight due to false claims made by Ken Agyapong.

Ken Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP, in a purported audio recording, accused Yamin of plotting to kill some expatriates in Kumasi ahead of the 2020 elections to create the impression that the country was unstable in the eyes of the international community.

In the audio, a voice alleged to be that of Mr. Agyapong was also heard accusing Yamin of planning to set fire to some markets in Kumasi.

According to the outspoken politician, Yamin and his associates, who met and discussed how to execute the alleged plot, were attempting to make the NPP government look unpopular so that the incumbent party would lose the election.

Mr. Agyapong claimed, “Their latest meeting was held at Yammin’s house in Kotwi and was attended by Huudu Yahaya, Faisal Mohammed of ‘Man Ghana’ fame, Yaw Barimma, Charles Amaning, and others.”

He further alleged that Yamin and his team were targeting expatriates residing in areas such as Asokwa, Ahodwo, and Adiebeba, intending to harm them. He, therefore, called on the National Security operatives to take immediate action.

Mr. Agyapong also alleged that one King George, a bodybuilder from Kronum in the Suame Constituency, was planning to form an association of bodybuilders under the pretense of ensuring peace in Kumasi ahead of the elections.

According to him, King George and his team, including Faisal Mohammed, were being sponsored by the NDC, adding that “they will invite Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to their meeting and eliminate him in the process.”

However, Yamin, a former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, recounted in an interview on Abusua FM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, how these false allegations had affected him, even outside Ghana.

“Were we not in this country when Ken Agyapong declared on live TV that a meeting had been held at my house where he claimed a plan was hatched to kill some expatriates? Since then, do you know what I go through whenever I travel out of this country?

“The first time I traveled after Ken Agyapong made those false claims, I was declared a high-risk passenger at Amsterdam Airport. My name was the eighth on the list of high-risk passengers—out of the entire airport, I was the eighth! Meanwhile, that allegation was completely false. I have sued him over the matter, and we’ll see how it ends.”

Yamin has taken legal action against Ken Agyapong, arguing that the latter defamed him by labeling him a killer.
