Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, a private legal practitioner, has recently clarified his earlier statements about leaving Ghana if John Dramani Mahama is re-elected.
He explained that his remarks were part of a political strategy aimed at motivating supporters of the New Patriotic Party to vote in order to keep Mahama in the opposition.
He emphasized that he has spent his entire life in Ghana and would never consider trading it for any other country, not even one like Togo, which he views as less developed.
Ampaw also reflected on Mahama’s potential victory as a reminder that anything is achievable with determination.
His comments were shared during an interview on GTV Ghana.
“NDC has won, and you know, during the campaign, I was on the side of Bawumia, and I did a lot of harm to the NDC, and I made a lot of political statements. I said if Mahama wins, I will leave to Togo, and I will not go because Ghana is far better than Togo, but it is part of the political game. I was trying to say that it is not possible for Mahama to come.
“As I sit here, I don’t even have a passport; I’ve not travelled before, and I have lived in Ghana for 57 years of my life so for me to say that I will leave to Togo was a political gimmick trying to ginger the people that look, let’s make it happen, but at the end of the day Mahama proved to me that everything is possible,” he emphasised.
