‘If some of us decide to speak out, things will be messy in the NDC’

Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare, has expressed deep frustration over developments within the party that he believes undermine cohesion and could threaten the peace within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking passionately during a panel discussion on Asempa FM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, an emotionally charged Kojo Adu-Asare revealed that the Deputy Women’s Organiser for the Adentan Constituency—who played a crucial role in the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections—has been sidelined since the party assumed power.

According to him, despite her tireless efforts that contributed to winning both the parliamentary seat and the presidency for John Dramani Mahama, she has not received any appointment or support from the government.

Making matters worse, Kojo Adu-Asare disclosed that the woman’s husband, a staff member of the Ghana Maritime Authority, was dismissed from his position after the elections. He lamented that efforts to intervene on the family’s behalf have so far been unsuccessful.

“This hurts me to my core,” Adu-Asare stated. “The woman worked day and night during the elections. And today, not only has she been ignored, but her husband has also been sacked and remains unemployed. They are both at home, struggling. This is not good news for anyone who believes in rewarding loyalty and hard work.”

He further alleged that some elements within the party are aware of the situation but have failed to take action. “We have made interventions, and we have been told, to our faces, that he cannot be employed. This hurts,” he emphasized.

While acknowledging that there may be underlying factors, Adu-Asare warned that continued silence on such issues could deepen divisions within the party.

“In politics, sometimes you need to be quiet and observe how things unfold,” he remarked. “But let it be known that it is not because some of us are afraid. If we decide to speak out fully, it will be messy. For now, we are using wisdom to contain ourselves.”

The former MP’s comments have sparked concern among grassroots members and political observers, who fear that unresolved grievances could undermine internal unity ahead of future elections.

I’m very worried for our party because the husband of the NDC Deputy Women’s Organizer of Adenta has been sacked as staff of the Ghana Maritime Authority; all efforts to get him back to work has failed and it is sad. — Kojo Adu Asare pic.twitter.com/Rq3j7UtkB4
