Ignore negative rumours about VP Naana Jane’s health – Ablakwa assures Ghanaians

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has strongly dismissed circulating rumours about the health of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, urging Ghanaians to ignore negative commentary and “vicious propaganda.”

Addressing a gathering of Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, the Minister reassured the public that the Vice President is in good health and will soon return to continue her official duties.

“I want to assure you that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers have really helped. I have heard from her, so I know what I’m talking about. Please ignore all that very vicious and unGhanaian, evil propaganda,” he told the audience.

The Foreign Affairs Minister referred to the Vice President as “our mother,” praising her strength and affirming that there is no cause for concern.

This latest comment follows speculative reports and online commentary in recent weeks about the Vice President’s prolonged absence from public events, leading to questions about her health status.

While no official illness has been confirmed, political opponents and anonymous social media accounts have fueled a wave of unverified claims about her condition.

However, government officials and members of the ruling administration have repeatedly denied any cause for alarm.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, assumed office in January 2025 after serving as the Minister for Education and running mate in the 2020 and 2024 elections. Her appointment was widely celebrated as a milestone for women’s representation in leadership.

Okudzeto Ablakwa’s reassurance is the latest in efforts to calm the public and reaffirm confidence in the Vice President’s capacity and wellbeing.

“Our mother is doing very, very well,” he repeated.
