Some aggrieved members and supporters of the Ablekuma North constituency have called for the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department, Faustina Andoh-Kwofie.

Addressing party members in the constituency during a vigil held at Ablekuma North on Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Greater Accra Regional Organiser, Anthony Nukpenu, expressed his strong disapproval of how the two leaders remain in their positions with no action taken by the president.

According to him, the conduct allegedly exhibited by the IGP and the CID boss during the Ablekuma North re-collation exercise and harassment of NDC members should have warranted their dismissals from their respective positions.

“Mr. President, your continuous decision to allow IGP Dampare and the Director-General of CID to be in office is failing our hearts. These people don’t deserve one week in your government but now it’s a month. Don’t let us speak far for us to be seen as disrespectful.

“These people told us in our faces at the EC, especially Faustina Andoh, the CID Director-General, that the NDC burnt the pink sheets of the NPP. These were her words and you are still keeping her to be giving security briefings,” he said.

The party executive expressed his displeasure with President John Dramani Mahama for failing to take action to prevent the harassment of party members.

He added that many of their members have been forced to flee their homes after being declared wanted by law enforcement authorities, cautioning that they may be compelled to take matters into their own hands if the party’s leadership fails to take action.

“Mr. President, enough of this. How long will you supervise these people to continue harassing your grassroots? As we speak, they have declared many of the NDC members wanted and many grassroots members cannot sleep in their rooms in Greater Accra because you are allowing Dampare and his team to harass the grassroots. When we strike, nobody can control us,” he cautioned.

Speaking on the ongoing dispute regarding the Ablekuma North Parliamentary Election, Nukpenu suggested that the controversy surrounding the seat, along with the neglect of the party’s leadership, has caused members to lose confidence, despite their hard efforts in securing the party’s victory.

He called on the party to address issues of the grassroots to avert any disunity that may arise.

“Let this message go to the leadership of the government. Don’t let your grassroots get disappointed in you. The government that just exited wouldn’t have tolerated this nonsense. Akufo-Addo as president would not allow the NDC to linger with them on a seat that they have won. We are failing the heart of our people who have fought for this government. Leadership must understand that politics is politics. Let’s not joke with certain things to fail the hearts of people who worked tirelessly at the grassroots to secure the victory for us,” he added.
