The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of Ghana’s healthcare system, calling for unity and mutual respect among all health sector workers.

In his address to the press on April 24, Mr Akandoh emphasised his willingness to work with all players in the sector, regardless of past disagreements or challenges.

“I am prepared to work with everybody, so let’s all come together and work together for the betterment of the health sector,” the Minister said.

Sharing a personal experience to emphasise his point, Mr Akandoh recounted a time when he was involved in an accident and received treatment at Nyinahin District Hospital – a facility he never expected to visit under such circumstances.

“It can happen to everybody. It happened to me when I had an accident. The first place I was rushed to was Nyinahin District Hospital. I never imagined that I would one day be at Nyinahin District Hospital, but I was there,” he said.

He added “So today, sitting where I sit, I will contribute my quota to the development of this sector.”

The Health Minister also took the opportunity to address concerns about strained relationships between government and medical personnel in light of recent developments at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, assuring healthcare workers of his utmost respect.

“I have absolutely no intention to disrespect any medical doctor or any health worker,” he affirmed.
