Professor of Financial Economics at the University of Ghana Business School, Lord Mensah
Professor of Financial Economics at the University of Ghana Business School, Lord Mensah, who has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the new Head of the Local Government Service, has responded to claims regarding his alleged affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, while he is not a registered member of the NDC, he aligns with the party’s ideology.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on July 2, 2025, he was asked directly if he was an NDC member.
He responded, “Not necessarily, but then also, you came to your office through a particular government. And so, of course, I’m a Ghanaian, and you expect me to, I mean, be aligned to a particular party.”
The host further probed, “So it is expected that, you know, once you have the same ideology, the same thinking, then, I mean, obviously, you may have to align. Okay, so now you are aligned?”
To this, Professor Mensah answered, “Yes, of course… well, with the position I occupy, it’s a non-political position. But of course, once the ideologies of the NDC align with yours as an academic, obviously, you may have to go in line.”
Professor Lord Mensah is one of several top academics from the University of Ghana who have been appointed by President Mahama into various positions in his administration.
