University of Gold Coast, Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi-Ofei

The Chancellor of the newly chartered University of Gold Coast, Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi-Ofei has called for a new era of ethical and visionary leadership to drive Ghana’s economic growth.

Delivering a speech at the media launch and inauguration of the university in the Greater Accra region, he called on the leadership of the nation to make bold steps to resolve the country’s challenges.

“Ghana does not have a resource problem. Ghana must not have a leadership problem”, he said.

According to him, there is the urgent need to redefine the orientation of leadership in Ghana to encourage more people to join in the push for development.

“We cannot build a great nation if leadership is treated as privilege instead of a responsibility. We cannot build a great nation if education is seen as a formality rather than a foundation. We cannot build great nation if governance is driven by short-term policies rather than long term visions”.

The University of Gold Coast, formerly known as Accra Business School has evolved into a fully chartered institution with an expanded academic focus on governance, law security and diplomacy.

Bishop Dr. Titi-Ofei emphasized that the university’s mission extends beyond awarding degrees.

He assured that the university is seeking to train ethical, competent and action driven leaders.

“The world does not honour potential, it honours results. We are not here to make promises. We are here to deliver”, he assured.

He reaffirmed the institution’s role in shaping Ghana’s future, pledging the  to equip students with professionalism and ethics.

“Ghana is standing at the crossroads of history. The world is asking; where will the next generation of transformative leaders emerge? Our answer is clear. They will emerge from the University of Gold Coast”, he said.

The keynote speaker Prof. Kwame Boasiako Omane-Antwi addressed the gathering on the theme; “Higher Education as a Catalyst for National Development: The Role of the University of Ghana Gold Coast”.

He stressed the importance of human capital development, quality assurance and strengthening instructional structures in nation development.
