Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has issued a strong caution to police officers involved in altering the identities of foreign nationals during arrests, warning that such misconduct will not be tolerated.
During an official visit to the Ashanti Regional Police Command headquarters, the Minister expressed deep concern over reports that some officers had been falsifying arrest records by changing the names of detained foreigners to Ghanaian identities.
Calling the practice both unethical and unlawful, he stated that any officer found engaging in it would be subject to strict disciplinary measures. He emphasized that such actions damage the credibility of the Ghana Police Service and violate the trust of the public.
“This is a serious breach of protocol that compromises national security and undermines the rule of law,” the Minister noted, reinforcing his commitment to restoring professionalism in law enforcement.
Turning to issues of crime in the region, Minister Mubarak also raised alarms over ongoing drug-related activities at a location known as “Tinker Island” in the Manhyia South Constituency. Describing it as a notorious drug hub, he challenged the Ashanti Regional Police Command to conduct a full-scale operation there within six months.
He underscored the urgency of dismantling drug networks and called for an all-out crackdown on peddlers and users alike. The Minister reiterated his resolve to support the police in fighting crime while demanding accountability and integrity from every officer in uniform.
