Paul Adom-Otchere says he’s innocent and being unfairly targeted in the ongoing investigation into a controversial contract at the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL).
The former GACL board chairman insisted he had nothing to do with the award of a revenue assurance contract to Evertex Logistics Limited, the deal at the centre of the Special Prosecutor’s probe.
“This matter is about procurement, and board chairmen don’t handle that. It’s the job of management,” he said in a video shared on Facebook on Thursday, July 31.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had summoned Adom-Otchere to appear before it that same day at 3pm, describing him as a suspect.
But in response, he disclosed that he had petitioned the OSP through his lawyers to reschedule the meeting to Monday, August 4, due to prior legal commitments. The request was, however, rejected.
Mr. Adom-Otchere explained that Evertex brought a proposal to help track GACL’s revenue, but the board only advised management to look into it with one clear instruction — GACL shouldn’t pay a cedi unless the work proved valuable.
“I told them plainly — Ghana Airport Company doesn’t have money to pay. If they believe in their proposal, they should do the work and show us results first. And till today, not one pesewa has been paid,” he said.
According to him, people are being coaxed to make statements that suggest he played a role in the contract.
“They’re calling people and asking: ‘Did the board chairman tell you to do this?’ That’s not how you seek the truth,” he said.
Mr. Adom-Otchere, who resigned as board chair in January 2025, said he only found out the contract had been signed when investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni reached out recently.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Manasseh Azure hinted on social media that a major exposé involving the deal was on the way.
He named Adom-Otchere, GACL Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, and Public Procurement Authority CEO Frank Mantey as people who have questions to answer.
