Two goals from John Andor helped Ghana to a 2-0 victory over Uganda in the Boys’ category of the U15 African Schools Championship at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday.
After a bright start by Ghana, Andor was isolated with his marker on the left side of Ghana’s attack.
Andor easily breezed past his opponent before making his way into the box, where he side-footed his first-time attempt past Uganda’s goalkeeper.
Andor’s goal gave Ghana a much-needed advantage and the opportunity to settle down into the game after a physical start.
The stop-and-start nature of the game meant the rhythm of the match was affected, with players tumbling to the ground at every instance.
Ghana headed into the break, however, holding out a 1-0 lead but should have extended their lead when Emmanuel Drah struck a post with a left-footed attempt from range a minute after the recess.
The momentum was with Ghana, who were backed by a raucous home crowd.
Andor sealed his brace after a goal-mouth scramble in Uganda’s goal area broke his way nine minutes after the break.
He tucked home to give Ghana the lead as the game finished 2-0.
Ghana move top of Group with three points ahead of their game against South Africa and Algeria on Thursday.
