Johnny Walker launched the Johnny Walker Annual Golf Championship on April 29 at the Achimota Golf Club.

The tournament is set to begin on May 30 and end on May 31.

According the Board Chairman of Guiness Ghana, Mr. Felix Addo, the tournament is scheduled to take place every year in May.

He said, “There will be two days of high driving, competition, mastery, fun, dedication, focus, and excellence.”

The tournament will be divided into male and female categories with different age groups. There will also be an award section for the most valuable player to recognize young talent in golf.

Estella Muzito, the Marketing and Communications Director of Guinness Ghana, explained that the initiative has been in the works for a while. Although the Johnny Walker brand has long partnered with golf tournaments and competitions, the company felt it was time to create its own.

“Actually, we are the number one scotch in the world,” she said to audience applause. “Our biggest consumers are golfers, you know. The people who can really afford this brand are golfers, and we’ve been partnering with some golf tournaments … but we felt that the time has come for us to have something of our own.”

She also highlighted the parallels between the Johnny Walker brand and the sport of golf, citing qualities such as precision, skill, ambition, focus, dedication, and courage.

The launch event was attended by several notable figures, including Retired Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng — founder of the defunct UT Bank, Mr. Frank Adu Jnr — President of the Achimota Golf Club, and Mr. Leonard Kweku Okyere — President of the Ghana Golf Association.

In his remarks, the Board Chairman noted that the tournament would not only witness some of the best players but would also create a platform for meaningful connections and collaborations.

“This is a space where visionaries and leaders can come together and do come together to inspire each other.”

This sentiment was echoed by the President of the Ghana Golf Association, who said such collaborations not only elevate the game of golf but also contribute to the broader development of sports in Ghana.

“We are truly looking forward to the success of the Johnny Walker Annual Golf Championship and the bright future of golf in Ghana.”

The Johnny Walker Annual Golf Championship was officially launched with a ceremonial tee-off on the Achimota golf course by the Board Chair of Guinness Ghana.
