Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew netted his fifth goal of the season as Leicester City secured a 2-0 win over already relegated Southampton on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester City’s skipper Jamie Vardy opened the scoring in the 17th minute with his 199th goal for the Foxes.
The former Crystal Palace forward doubled Leicester’s lead in the 44th minute with a clinical finish from 22 yards out.
Ayew’s free-kick was initially blocked by the well formed wall, but he pounced on the rebound, firing home a low shot that beat the Saints’ goalkeeper.
The 33-year-old has now scored three goals in 16 appearances against Southampton in the Premier League.
This win ended Leicester’s nine-game losing streak at home in the Premier League and 11-match winless run overall.
Despite this victory, Leicester City still faces relegation, currently sitting second-bottom on the table.
Southampton, on the other hand, confirmed their bottom finish in the league, marking their third time finishing last in the Premier League.
Ayew’s goal also moved him to five league strikes this season, putting him just three goals behind Leicester’s top scorer, Jamie Vardy, who also scored in the match to take his tally to eight.
