Staff of the Juapong District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have undergone a seminar focused on security and safety in the course of their duties.
The seminar, held at the district office on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, featured Chief Inspector Eugene Osafo Obiri of the Ghana Police Service as the keynote speaker. Chief Inspector Obiri oversees security in Juapong, Frankadua, Nudu, Apegusu, Mpakadan, and surrounding areas.
Addressing the staff, Chief Inspector Obiri emphasized the need for improved customer relations.
He cautioned, “In some instances, the way you communicate your reasons for being in the field, your expectations from customers, and possible sanctions can provoke anger and even violence.”
He advised staff to remain vigilant and assess their surroundings at all times. “If you sense any danger, retreat and report to your supervisors and the police,” he said.
He added, “As ECG staff dealing with diverse people, you must exercise patience and restraint to help defuse tension and ensure smooth operations.”
The Chief Inspector also warned of impersonators who extort money from unsuspecting customers under the guise of working for ECG.
He urged staff to always wear the correct attire, carry their staff ID cards, and demonstrate professionalism in their duties.
Ing. William Ahenkorah, District Manager of ECG Juapong District under the Tema Region, reminded staff that ECG now operates a cashless payment system.
He instructed them to educate customers on making electronic payments and warned against collecting cash from customers.
“Always remember that any action contrary to company policy, such as accepting cash payments, can lead to disciplinary action, including termination,” he cautioned.
The seminar was organised in response to incidents where field staff faced threats during their official duties.
Staff expressed appreciation for the timely training and the insights shared during the event.
