Julius Debrah donates GH¢20,000 to support 12-year-old girl battling kidney cancer

Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, has extended a life-saving hand to the family of a 12-year-old girl battling kidney cancer by donating a cheque of GH¢20,000 to assist with her medical treatment.

The donation was made on Monday in Accra through Citizen Eye Ghana, a civil society organization committed to grassroots welfare. The cheque was officially presented by the President of Citizen Eye Ghana, Mr. Alex Kwaku Tetteh, on behalf of Hon. Julius Debrah, to the girl’s father, Mr. Isaac Laryea, at the organization’s office.

Addressing the media during the presentation, Mr. Alex Kwaku Tetteh expressed his profound appreciation to Hon. Debrah for setting aside political affiliations and choosing humanity.

“I want to say a very big thank you to our father, Hon. Julius Debrah, for this kind gesture,” Mr. Tetteh said. “This is not just about politics; this is about saving a child’s life. I am deeply touched that he decided to step in without hesitation.”

Narrating how he first came into contact with Mr. Isaac Laryea, Mr. Tetteh explained that he received a call from an unknown individual after one of his live streams on social media. The person, having obtained his contact number from the stream, pleaded for help to raise funds for a child diagnosed with cancer.

“At first, I didn’t believe the story,” he admitted. “But after I saw the hospital reports and did my own background investigations, I realized the case was genuine. I told the father to come on Monday because I was expecting some money. But this morning I woke up a bit worried because the money I was expecting hadn’t come.”

He continued, “Then out of nowhere, I received a call from Hon. Julius Debrah. I narrated the story to him, and without wasting time, he said, ‘Alex, I will take care of it.’ That’s how we got this GH¢20,000 cheque today. God has His own way of working miracles.”

Receiving the cheque with visible emotion, Mr. Isaac Laryea thanked both Hon. Julius Debrah and Mr. Tetteh for the unexpected but timely support.

“From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of my family, I want to thank Hon. Julius Debrah and Mr. Alex Kwaku Tetteh. I was really struggling, and this donation has given my daughter hope,” he said.

Recounting his daughter’s ordeal, Mr Laryea shared that the illness began around December 2024 when the young girl complained of persistent pain and swelling on the right side of her stomach.

“I took her to the Hospital,” he recalled. “That’s where we were told it was kidney cancer. The doctors said the treatment could cost between GH¢15,000 and GH¢30,000. We didn’t know how we were going to manage it. But today, this support has brought us great relief.”

The donation is expected to cover a significant portion of the medical costs and enable the girl to begin or continue with treatment immediately.
