Kasoa Police arrest woman for allegedly attempting to poison her son over boyfriend’s infidelity

A 24-year-old woman, Mary Tawiah, has been arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command for allegedly attempting to poison her son during a heated altercation with her estranged boyfriend.

According to police sources and eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded in the old market area of Kasoa after Mary reportedly tracked down her boyfriend, Kobby Nbelenbele, and his alleged new partner. Mary, who had previously lived with Kobby in Teshie, is said to have been incensed after learning he had abandoned her and their child to start a new relationship in Kasoa.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the confrontation quickly spiraled out of control. In the middle of the altercation, Mary allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a harmful substance and attempted to force it into the mouth of her son in a moment of emotional breakdown and rage.

“She was shouting, arguing with the man, and then suddenly reached into her bag. That’s when she tried to give something to the child. People screamed and rushed to stop her,” said one witness at the scene.

Bystanders immediately intervened and restrained Mary before any harm could come to the child. The boy was quickly taken to safety, and Mary was handed over to the police.

Both Mary and Kobby are currently in custody as investigations into the case continue. Police have confirmed that the child is unharmed and in protective care.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the substance involved, pending laboratory analysis. Meanwhile, DOVVSU officials say psychological support will be provided to the child, and a thorough investigation will determine the next legal steps.

The case has sparked concern among community members, with many calling for increased awareness around mental health, domestic disputes, and child protection.
