Traders at the Kumasi Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region have voiced their frustration over recurrent power outages, which they say are disrupting business activities.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power to the market due to an outstanding electricity debt of GHS 2.3 million.
However, the traders blame the market management for the accumulated debt, insisting that they have paid their bills and do not owe the management any arrears.
Angered by the situation, the traders have called on President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the market’s management team, particularly the Managing Director, whom they accuse of incompetence and mismanagement.
The Leader of the Concerned Market Traders, Stephen Church, popularly known as Agyaaku, reinforced the traders’ concerns, stating that the ongoing power crisis is crippling their businesses and must be resolved immediately.
The traders are demanding swift action to restore power and address the mismanagement issues, warning that their livelihoods are at risk if the problem persists.
