Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has donated GH¢1 million to the party to help settle outstanding salaries for its workers.
According to the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, the opposition party has been unable to clear arrears owed to its workers since it left power on January 7, 2025.
Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, April 25, Mr. Agyapong acknowledged that opposition parties typically face such financial challenges.
He further revealed that upon returning from a trip to Madagascar, he felt compelled to offer financial support to aid the party’s administration.
“It becomes a challenge that affects every party. When they go into opposition, they face financial or resource challenges. So, I came from Madagascar, and I heard in the news that for four months, we haven’t been able to pay salaries to workers.
“So, I decided to come with this widow’s mite contribution. We’ve been in opposition for about four months, and it’s sad that we cannot run the party, which I think is not good enough. So, my message is simple: I’ve come this morning as a contribution to enable the running of the party,” he said.
