Kennedy Agyapong will contest NPP presidential primaries for 2028 – Brother confirms

Kennedy Agyapong, former flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to make another bid for the party’s presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections, according to his brother, Ralph Agyapong.

Speaking in an interview with Kings Jersey TV in the United States on March 15, 2025, Ralph disclosed that Kennedy Agyapong is preparing to contest the party’s next presidential primaries, adding that internal dynamics within the NPP now favour his brother’s candidacy.

“I can tell you on authority that he will contest the presidency or the NPP primaries, hopefully, next year, because we might have an early congress. He will be on the ballot paper,” Ralph Agyapong confirmed.

Ralph Agyapong noted that following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, there has been a significant shift in support within the party, with many members who backed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia — Kennedy’s main contender in the last primaries — now reconsidering their stance.

“As I speak, a lot of people have made a U-turn,” he stated, suggesting that Kennedy Agyapong is gaining more traction among party members ahead of the next internal contest.

Ralph described his brother’s previous presidential bid as a tough contest, claiming it was effectively a battle between Kennedy Agyapong and the state due to the level of opposition he faced from within and outside the party’s establishment.

He also hinted that the NPP may hold an early congress to select its flagbearer, a move that could set the stage for Kennedy Agyapong’s return to the presidential race sooner than expected.

In addition, Ralph Agyapong criticized the party’s campaign strategy in the 2024 elections, suggesting that poor tactics contributed to the NPP’s loss, and that new leadership is needed to reposition the party for 2028.

“The strategy that was used did not help the party to win ,” he pointed out, emphasizing the need for a stronger, more relatable candidate to lead the party.
