Legal practitioner and campaign spokesperson for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has expressed confidence that his candidate would emerge victorious if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its presidential primaries today.
According to him, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament stands a better chance of clinching the flagbearership ahead of the scheduled date of January 31, 2026.
“If we vote today, Ken will get the nod,” Kwarteng said while speaking on Accra-based JoyPrime on Friday, July 4.
He further claimed that the camp of former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is in disarray following what he described as abandonment by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“President Akufo-Addo, who was the sailor of the ship, the captain of the ship, and the main machinery behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the last election, has now abandoned the ship. This makes the direction of the ship a bit shaky,” Kwarteng alleged.
He also stated that some key figures in Dr. Bawumia’s camp, including former Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, who is also vying for the flagbearership, no longer believe in his presidential agenda.
“Bryan Acheampong, for instance, was very integral in Dr. Bawumia’s camp to the extent that he even wanted to be the vice-presidential candidate. He was apparently tipped as one of the few people who could be his running mate. Today, even one of his financiers doesn’t believe in his agenda,” Kwarteng added.
