Ten final-year students of the Koforidua Technical Institute (KOTECH) have been dismissed from the school for allegedly reporting late to the Assembly grounds from their dormitories, sparking concerns over their academic future.

The affected students were barred from writing their ongoing mock examinations, a move that could significantly impact their preparation and eligibility for the upcoming final exams.

According to sources within the school, the decision was enforced as part of disciplinary measures to instil order and punctuality.

However, the severity of the punishment has raised eyebrows among parents, education advocates, and the students themselves.

The Vice Principal of KOTECH, Orlando, confirmed the disciplinary action but did not provide further details on whether any alternative resolution is being considered.

The affected students have since made a public appeal to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intervene, pleading for a second chance to participate in the mock exams and continue their academic journey.

“We are not asking to be excused for wrongdoing, but we believe the punishment is too harsh, especially with final exams around the corner,” one of the students said in an appeal.

Education stakeholders are urging school authorities and the GES to strike a balance between discipline and academic continuity, particularly for final-year students whose futures depend heavily on the successful completion of their exams.

GES has yet to officially respond to the matter
