The Ghana Premier League (GPL) witnessed a flurry of midweek action on Wednesday, as matchday 20 fixtures, previously postponed due to the passing of a Kotoko fan Nana Pooley, were finally played out.

In a season-first, the GPL hosted mjdweek matches, and 3Sports brings you the highlights from across the various stadiums.

Kotoko’s reign at the top of the Ghana Premier League table came to an abrupt end after being held to a goalless draw by Young Apostles. This stalemate saw Kotoko slip down the pecking order, surrendering their pole position. Young Apostles remain unbeaten in their last two games, sitting pretty in 10th place. Kotoko must now regroup and refocus to keep pace in the title race.

Hearts of Oak’s woes continued unabated, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bechem United. Kofi Tompuo’s decisive strike in the 52nd minute proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Phobians. Bechem United pushed into the top four, firmly placing themselves in the title fray. Hearts of Oak slipped out of the top four, now sitting four points adrift of the league leaders.

Bibiani GoldStars catapulted to the summit of the premier league standings after recording a hard-fought victory away to Basake Holy Stars. Michael Nkoah’s 69th-minute beauty was the difference-maker. The Miners enjoy a slender lead atop the league table, only one point richer than second-placed Asante Kotoko.

Dreams FC grabbed a crucial 2-1 away victory against Heart of Lions. This morale-boosting win saw Dreams FC dodge the relegation bullet, while Lions were deprived of securing their spot in the upper half of the table. The defeat can impact Lions’ title aspirations, but they’ll hope to bounce back when facing league leaders GoldStars.

Aduana FC secured a crucial 1-0 win over Nations FC, courtesy of Emmanuel Marfo’s 71st-minute strike. This victory marks a significant turning point for Aduana FC, as they push to escape relegation. Nations FC remain sixth in the league after 22 games.

Legon Cities FC and Vision FC played out a 1-1 draw, with both teams fighting to escape the relegation battle. The shared points see both teams maintain a precarious grip on their league positions.

The Western derby between Samartex and Medeama lived up to its billing, with the visitors taking an early lead. However, Samartex showed resilience, staging a remarkable comeback to walk away with all three points. This win marks an important turnaround for Samartex, lifting them to 8th place, within touching distance of the league’s top spots.

•Young Apostles 0-0 Kotoko

•FC Samartex 2-1 Medeama SC

• Bechem Utd 1-0 Hearts of Oak

• Basake Holy Stars 0-1 Goldstars
