Krobo youth hail young soldier’s patriotic act of rejecting bribe from illegal miners

Kloma Gbi, a Krobo-based youth network, has commended Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces, for rejecting a bribe from some illegal miners while on official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mine in the Western North Region.

Mr Philip Tetteh Padi, an engineer and commissioner of Kloma Gbi, described the soldier’s conduct as a rare demonstration of integrity in a society where ethical values are often compromised for financial gain.

“In our part of the world, where professionalism and integrity are frequently traded for personal interest, only a few stand firm in their principles. Private Teye-Tsu has truly lived out the Kloma Gbi value of integrity,” Mr Padi told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

Private Teye-Tsu’s professionalism and patriotic act have also earned him recognition from Ojeyz Security Management Limited, a wholly Ghanaian-owned security firm that provides services to government institutions, mining companies, diplomatic missions, and various industrial entities.

Private Teye-Tsu, 30 years old, currently attached to the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp in Accra, was deployed to the mine site late last year.

During his assignment, he was approached by a group of illegal miners who offered him a substantial bribe in exchange for unrestricted access to their galamsey pits.

Demonstrating patriotism and professionalism, he rejected the offer and swiftly caused the arrest of the illegal miners, numbering six, who were subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities for prosecution.

The management of Ojeyz Security praised his actions as exemplary, saying they reflected high ethical standards and dedication to duty. The firm honoured him with a special award and citation under its “Outstanding Staff Recognition” initiative.

A citation, signed by Captain Haruna Adamu (Rtd.), Chief Executive Officer of Ojeyz Security, acknowledged Private Teye-Tsu’s “commendable performance and unwavering dedication to providing top-notch service” and expressed the company’s appreciation of his professionalism and commitment.

Private Teye-Tsu, who hails from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, is an old student of Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) and King David College. He was enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces in 2023.

In a brief remark, he expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to continue upholding the values of integrity and national service.

“I feel greatly honoured and fired up,” he said.
