President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of Kumasi that the Krofrom Market will be completed by the end of 2026.

Inspecting the project during his “Thank You Tour” of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving key market infrastructure across the country.

“As the Mayor has said, the project has stalled since 2008. In our 2024 manifesto, under the Market Enhancement Program, we identified 18 markets across Ghana for rehabilitation. These include markets in Sunyani, Techiman, and Mankessim.

“So, I have asked the Mayor to write to the Vice President and include Krofrom so that the project can be completed. All the traders currently selling along the pavements will be relocated to the market once the project is done. I believe that by the end of 2026, Krofrom Market will be completed,” President Mahama assured.

The project was initiated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2007, with an expected completion period of six months.

However, it was abandoned in 2008 due to a lack of funds, and successive governments have since failed to complete it.

The market was designed to include over 500 stores and shelves to boost business activities in the metropolis.
