Kurt Okraku pays morale-boosting visit to Black Satellites ahead of tournament

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, paid a confidence-boosting visit to the Black Satellites ahead of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Egypt, after initial hosts Ivory Coast pulled out, from April 27.

Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Senegal, Dr. Congo and Central African Republic.

The Black Satellites kick-start their tournament with a game against Dr. Congo on May 2 before facing Senegal on May 5.

Ghana’s last group game will be played on May 8 against the Central African Republic.

As part of preparations for the tournament, the Black Satellites, who depart Ghana on Saturday, played a friendly against Division One side Inter Allies.

The Black Satellites edged the Division One side 2-1, setting the tone for the tournament.

In addition to the win against Inter Allies, GFA President Kurt Okraku visited the team to inspire them ahead of the tournament, which also doubles as qualification to the U20 World Cup – a tournament Ghana has failed to participate in since 2015.

Desmond Ofei’s team, who annexed gold at  the 2023 African Games, will be motivated to try and reclaim the AFCON trophy Ghana last won in 2021.

A final four finish at the U20 AFCON will automatically guarantee Ghana a spot at the 2025 U20 World Cup, slated for Chile in September.
