Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Despite a disappointing campaign in 2024 especially in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers where the nations failed to book a slot in the continent’s most prestigious tournament for the first time in two decades.
The four time AFCON champions made a strong comeback, ending a six-game winless streak with consecutive victories against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the March internationals.
The 5-0 thrashing of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and the 3-0 win over Madagascar in Morocco have significantly boosted the Black Stars’ chances.
With 15 points, Ghana tops Group I, and Okraku believes this momentum will propel them to qualification.
“I have absolute belief that Black Stars will fight for qualification to the 2026 World Cup,” Okraku told GhOne TV. The tournament, set to be hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, is within reach, according to the GFA boss.
As part of preparations for Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in the September international window, the Black Stars will participate in a four-nation tournament in London where they will lock horns with bitter rivals Nigeria.
