Kwame Baffoe Abronye And Bono Region

The Evidence: Kwame Baffoe Abronye And Bono Region

Kwame Baffoe Abronye, also known as Abronye DC is a member of the New Patriotic Party, NPP. He is the party’s chairman for Bono Region, a member of the national communication team and communication team member of the Bawumia Campaign team. In the previous President Akufo-Addo led NPP Government, he was appointed as a board member of Tema Oil Refinery, TOR.

Before his elevation to the position of Regional Chairman, Abronye DC was the First Vice Chairman of NPP in the then Brong Ahafo Region. His elevation came as a result of the regional re-demarcation which saw the Brong Ahafo region being divided into three separate regions; Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions respectively. Grounded in Law with specific reference to Article 9(24) of the party’s constitution, the General Secretary then, Mr. John Boadu announced his elevation from First Vice Chairman of Brong Ahafo region to Regional Chairman of the new Bono Region. This was in 2019. On 29th May, 2022, he was reelected with 173 votes as against his lone contender Mr. Konlaabig Rasheed who polled 84 votes.

In his acceptance and appreciation address in 2019 after his appointment, Mr. Kwame Baffoe Abronye, or as he is widely known Abronye DC “promised to work to increase NPP’s votes in the Bono Region in 2020 and to continue to project NPP in the region”. Owing to the electoral data at the time, it was accurate to only talk about an increase in votes through projection of the party. After all, out of the 12 parliamentary seats in the new Bono region, NPP which Abronye now presided over as Chairman occupied 11 seats making 91.67% with NDC occupying only 1 seat making 8.33%. In terms of presidential support, NPP’s Nana Addo had 243,904 popular votes making a percentage of 60.30 whereas NDC’s John Dramani Mahama had 155,488 votes giving him 38.44%.

Let us not forget that the 12 constituencies making up the Bono region are; Banda, Berekum East, Berekum West, Dormaa Central, Dormaa West, Dormaa East, Jaman North, Jaman South, Sunyani East, Sunyani West, Tain and Wenchi. In 2016, with the exception of Banda, all were Blue, Red and White without dent.

In 2020, under Abronye DC’s chairmanship of the party in the region, NPP lost 5 of the seats to NDC. The NDC maintained the Banda seat whilst snatching Dormaa West, Jaman North, Jaman South, Tain and Dr. K.A Busia’s Wenchi from the NPP. So, from 11 seats in 2016, the NPP had fallen to 6. In the presidential results, though President Akufo-Addo the NPP’s candidate had gained some nominal increase in votes, he had also fallen from 60.30% (243,904 votes) in 2016 to 59.05% (292,545 votes). NDC’s John Dramani Mahama had gained votes and appreciated in terms of percentage, thus, from 155,488 (representing 38.44%) in 2016 to 195,949 (representing 39.56%) in 2020.

In 2024, the New Patriotic Party further lost all of its remaining 6 parliamentary seats but reclaimed Jaman South which was lost in 2020. There was a total flip in the presidential results with NDC’s John Dramani Mahama beating NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to pulp. NDC garnered 235,941 (representing 56.16%) whereas NPP got 181,684 (representing 43.25%).

From the electoral data above, it is clear that Abronye’s continued holding of office as Chairman of the Bono region is detrimental to any expected future electoral fortunes of the party. His failure and incompetence, drawing from the data is a clear indication that NPP have a greater possibility of losing Jaman South again to the NDC. More head aching is the possibility of the NPP losing more votes which will largely affect our chances of recapturing power in election 2028.

In the interest of the party, it is only honorable for Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye to resign as Bono regional chairman and this should be done with immediate effect. On the face of the pink sheet, he has failed. There should be no room to tolerate such incompetence, whooping failure and degrading party gains. This is the true evidential report of Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye’s Bono region – clear, unbiased report backed with factual data. It is rotten, stinking and very bad. Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye must resign immediately for collapsing NPP in Bono region.
