Kwame Opoku was the star of the show as Asante Kotoko beat Golden Kick to win the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup title.

Opoku scored in each half of the game to seal the victory for Karim Zito’s side, who picked up a 2-1 win at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors had a great start to the game after going ahead after just 16 minutes through Opoku, finishing off after a scrappy defending by Golden Kick.

Despite going behind, Golden Kick took control of the game and controlled the tempo, creating good chances in the final third but were unable to get back on level terms.

Their equaliser however came in the 31st minute when Bless Ege beat the Kotoko goalkeeper with a brilliant strike from a free-kick.

The two teams went into the break with the score level.

From recess, either side had loads of chances to go ahead but fluffed the chances at the very last minute.

With just added time to end proceedings, Kotoko found luck on their side. Zito’s side were given a penalty after the referee judged the Golden Kick goalkeeper to have fouled Opoku in the box, the decision raising lots of questions.

However, the referee stood by his decision after consultation with his assistant.

Opoku stepped up and dispatched the penalty to seal the FA Cup triumph.
