Correspondence from the Eastern Region

A former assemblyman, Emmanuel Kwesi Larweh, has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region following a Special General Assembly Meeting held in Asesewa.

Larweh secured 38 valid votes out of the 48 votes cast, representing 79% endorsement by the Assembly Members, surpassing the two-thirds majority required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

The election was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC).

In his acceptance speech, the new Assembly Chief expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the appointment and assured his constituents of his utmost commitment to implementing the president’s vision towards ensuring that the reset agenda succeeds.

He also pledged to work tirelessly to deliver development for the people of Upper Manya Krobo and called for support from all and sundry to enable him to succeed in his position. “I am particularly grateful to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for giving me this unique opportunity for the nomination to serve in the high office as the District Chief Executive for the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly,” said the DCE.

“In this direction, I wish to ask for your continuous support, and the cooperation of your subjects, count on your rich experiences, and more particularly your good counsel to enable me succeed in my new office as District Chief Executive for our dear district, Upper Manya Krobo.”

Assuring the assembly and the community of an inclusive leadership approach, he noted, “I wish to seize this opportunity to assure you and your members that I will work hard with all of you to justify the trust and confidence you have reposed in me. I would also like to reiterate the position of the President of the Republic of Ghana to be a listening District Chief Executive; tolerate the concerns and views of all irrespective of your party political affiliations, and live above reproach to ensure that the government’s “reset agenda” is achieved.”

Kwesi Larweh also thanked the chiefs, MP, assembly members, and the people of Upper Manya Kobo for their unflinching support throughout the whole confirmation process and assured the Assembly members of effective collaboration with them to justify the trust and confidence they’ve reposed in him.

Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, described Kwesi Larweh as the perfect choice to represent the President in Upper Manya Krobo.

He extolled the virtues of the new DCE as being ideal for the position, adding that he’s the right choice to address the challenges confronting the district, including bad roads, access to potable water and markets.

“I’m very confident that this DCE will work very hard for the development of our communities,” he said, pledging his unflinching support for the assembly chief whom he described him as a “transparent and open-minded person.”

The confirmation ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Divisional Chief of Asesewa, Nene Ofei Tagbaja. In his remarks, Nene Ofei, who graced the occasion, described the successful confirmation as good news for development.

Promising his resolve to rally the MP, DCE and assembly members towards facilitating development in Upper Manya Krobo, he was hopeful that such effective collaboration would enhance development in the area.

The chief urged the people to rally behind the leaders to ensure that they succeed.
