The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzi Tamakloe, has criticized the timing of a lawsuit challenging the government’s decision to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other top security officials.
According to him, the legal action created the perception that former Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare was orchestrating the suit in an attempt to restrict the President’s authority.
“The law suit was poorly timed. It created the impression that you are behind it. You try to gag the Appointing Authority. Bad move,” he stated in a social media post.
The lawsuit, filed by IMANI Africa and Professor Anning, sought an injunction to stop the president from removing Dampare and other security heads before a court ruling expected in May 2025.
They argued that any such dismissals before the verdict would be unfair.
Despite the legal challenge, Dampare has been replaced by Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who is expected to lead efforts to reform the Ghana Police Service.
