Leaders must consider citizens when making decisions – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians in leadership positions to be mindful of the decisions they make, emphasizing their far-reaching consequences on citizens’ lives.

Delivering a tribute to the late CEO of KAMA Group of Companies, Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo, President Mahama highlighted the devastating effects of the previous government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), noting that thousands, including the late Dr. Addo, were affected.

He called on leaders to prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens when making policy decisions.

“His death came to me as a shock but also tells us that as leaders, when we make decisions, we must know that our decisions affect a lot of people. KAMA was known, and his story with regards to bond exchange was widely known because he spoke about it.

“But I am sure thousands of individuals are advanced in age but have had their pension funds and others affected by the DDEP. Some of these people have either passed away or are sitting in their homes in poverty and do not have money to buy their medicines.

“For me, the lesson is that in taking decisions, as leaders, we must know that they affect lives,” he stated.

President Mahama also offered prayers for the bereaved family and encouraged them to take pride in the legacy their father left behind.
