Leading NPP member proposes revision of requirements for higher party roles

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, is proposing a revision of internal qualification requirements for higher party positions.

He suggests that persons who are passed for executive positions at the regional and national levels should have previously held portfolios at the polling station or constituency levels.

The former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant believes that, aside from the ability to serve effectively, such persons have strong ties with the grassroots, which is key for party development.

He was speaking at the NPP Chairmen Caucus of Ghana Conference in Kumasi on the theme: “Building Momentum: The Role of NPP Constituency Chairmen in Uplifting the Party Towards 2028 and Beyond.”

The conference brought together constituency chairmen from across the country to discuss strategies, internal cohesion, and preparations for the 2028 general elections.

The speech of Odeneho Kwaku Appiah highlighted the need for unity, discipline, and renewed energy in the struggle to return to power.

He further made a call for action that resonated deeply with party members grappling with internal challenges and public perception issues following the 2024 elections, emphasising the dangers of internal division.

“Let us set aside religious, tribal, and economic differences in favour of collective strength,” he added.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity,” he quoted Psalm 133:1 to remind the audience that the path to victory in 2028 requires forgiveness, teamwork, and a strategic commitment to ethical governance.

Throughout the address, the former Constituency Chairman invoked powerful references from Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and African proverbs to emphasise unity, collaboration, and responsibility.

He also urged party executives to actively participate in decision-making, foster transparency, and embrace dissenting views within the boundaries of respectful democratic discourse.
