The Upper West Regional Chairperson of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Maria Johana Yuorpor, has called on individuals and institutions to make humanity a daily priority in commemoration of this year’s World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
The 2025 global celebration is being marked under the theme, “Keeping Humanity Alive.”
In a statement issued on the day, May 8, 2025, Madam Yuorpor honored the tireless spirit of Red Cross volunteers, staff, and partners for their unwavering commitment to humanity, even in the face of adversity.
She said the theme was a timely reminder that in times of crisis—whether floods, conflict, disease outbreaks, or personal tragedy—simple acts of care and solidarity are what sustain our shared humanity.
She highlighted the role of Red Cross volunteers in the Upper West Region who have continued to serve on the frontlines during emergencies and through community development activities.
According to her, these volunteers have been instrumental in promoting health and hygiene, offering first aid training, responding to disasters, and supporting vulnerable populations.
She noted that their work represents the core of the Red Cross mission: to prevent and alleviate human suffering without discrimination.
Madam Yuorpor stressed that World Red Cross Day is not just a moment of celebration but a call to action.
She urged the public to support and invest in community-based humanitarianism.
She also called on all to integrate compassion and empathy into their everyday lives and work.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to all Red Cross and Red Crescent members, particularly those in the Upper West Region, for their service and sacrifice.
She ended her statement with a call to “continue to serve with love” and to “keep humanity alive.”
