The respected and sharp-witted Mighty Minority leader, Hon.Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, should stay focused and never be distracted by all the scheming and calculated attempts by the so-called supermajority in Parliament and the NDC.
For a fact, the NDC and government of the day have deployed all manner of shenanigans upon realizing that they won’t get it easy with the learned Minority leader who doubled as the member of Parliament for the people of Effutu and the leader of the Minority Caucus.
Since the beginning of the 9th Parliament, the Minority leader has firmly and courageously held the fort and continues to display smart and intellectual arguments on the floor of Parliament on certain pertinent matters of great concern to the Nation.
He has, together with his hard-working colleagues, been proactive and up to the task despite the few numbers which many believed it would have been arduous for them to match up to what’s transpiring in the August House.
Interestingly, the NDC members are struggling to withstand the NPP, and it’s an obvious fact. Since the commencement of the 9th Parliament, the Minority has been able to live up to expectations by holding the NDC administration to account.
Taking the above into consideration, the NDC is engaged in vile, skewed, and unsubstantiated allegations to paint the Minority leader black and it all boils down to the grilling he subjected some of the President’s nominees by asking them thought-provoking questions during the appointments committee vetting process.
Indeed, members of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, were unhappy and dissatisfied with the level of rigorous grilling process he subjected some of the nominees, especially the likes of Hon. Ablakwa, Hon. Sam Nartey George, and others.
It came to light during the vetting process of Mr. Ablakwa, where he decided to drum home his usual propaganda of knowing everything about people through the introduction of a mere allegation of a Land possessed by the Hon. Minority leader.
Fortunately, this frivolous allegation was put to reset when Joynews did their independent work on that land, which came out to be untrue from the narration of Mr. Ablakwa during the vetting process.
With the chronology of events, I thought the attempts by the NDC and their leadership in Parliament would have been magnanimous enough to learn from the learned Minority leader who has showcased resilience, fortitude, and great tenacity to hold them to account.
However, the Deputy General Secretary of NDC, Mr. Mustapha Gbandi, tried to take the Hon. Minority leader to the cleaners with his usual immature and character assassination approach simply to dent the image of the man of the moment.
He ignorantly stated that they would sacrifice the Minority for the tough time he has continued to give the so-called super-struggling majority in Parliament. Indeed, that statement was inappropriate and deserves condemnation from every Tom, Dick, and Harry.
Strangely, it was like nothing untoward happened with that childish and scandalous statement from the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, NDC. This gave them the courage to continue their weak approach.
On the program dubbed The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, some of the panels made some disparaging remarks during the discussion by mentioning the name of the revered Minority leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin where he had to phone in to respond to those unthinkable allegations.
This was made by no other person but the Majority Chief Whip, who stated that the Former Majority leader used 50 military on his convoy, which he denied on the show through a phone call.
The Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Dafeamakpo, apologized for that wicked allegation on the TV3’s Key point, which is now a platform for the NDC to look at the biased nature of the program.
Fast forward, Lawyer Martin Kpebu, who continued to do the bidding of the NDC during the campaign season, jumped on that matter to be heard with some calculated attempts to court the attention of the Hon. Minority leader.
Mr. Kpebu’s attitude on the show didn’t look like he was a lawyer of high repute after the apology and retraction by the Majority Chief Whip during the panel discussion.
I was shocked by the kind of needless posture of Mr. Kpebu, who acted like a remote control to drum home the agenda of the NDC to smear the Character of the respected Minority leader.
From what transpired on the show, it was vividly clear that the Host of the program and his panels were there not to discuss issues dispassionately but to continue to blame the previous government anytime they’re on the show, particularly Mr. Kpebu who is a regular feature on the program.
It’s quite bizarre that Mr. Kpebu, at his age, will be used by NDC and the TV station to cause traffic based on the unguided utterances he always makes on the program every Saturday.
Mr. Kpebu, why should you be used at your age to drive home a needless debate? Are you proud of that useless ORAL committee formed in which you are a member? That committee is unconstitutional and doesn’t have prosecutorial powers in the first place.
In effect, this is the time for NPP members to rally support behind the assertive and audacious Minority leader who has been able together with his hard-working colleagues despite the few numbers in Parliament.
The leader on the Minority side has demonstrated unmatched leadership acumen that we must be proud of in tackling some of the sensitive matters raised on the floor of Parliament and outside the August House.
Let’s not allow the NDC’s wicked agenda to distract or silence the brave Minority leader and his colleagues. They have targeted him and we shouldn’t sit aloof and allow such ridiculous moves to fester.
Hon.Alexander Kwabena Afenyo-Markin is an asset we must guard jealously with all our might irrespective of the shenanigans played with the NDC and the so-called hypocrites who described themselves as neutral with biased opinions expressed to dent the image of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.
At this juncture, I respectfully call on the leadership of NPP not to relent but to continue to provide the Minority leader and the Minority Caucus in Parliament with unflinching support, whether rain or shine, for a viable and strong Party.
Doubtless, No weapon formed against the Minority leader and the Minority Caucus in Parliament shall prosper.
Shalom!
Long live NPP!
