Prince David Osei, a Ghanaian actor and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to rise above political insults and divisive rhetoric.
In a social media message on Thursday, February 27, the actor voiced great concern about what he described as a developing culture of intolerance in Ghana’s political environment.
His comments came after President John Dramani Mahama delivered the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament.
“What the h**l has happened to our beautiful Ghana? The damned polarization is tearing our democracy to shreds,” he lamented.
According to Prince David Osei, it was devastating to see the degree of rudeness and personal attacks that marked responses to the President’s speech.
“But these lads, using foul language against the president…is unacceptable,” he said.
He advised Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to engage in productive conversation rather than resorting to insults and personal attacks in their political differences.
“For God’s sake, let’s learn to tolerate each other! Disagree, fine. But personal attacks?! This sort of polarization could cause us hell one day, NPP or NDC be damned!” he warned.
Prince David Osei, who has previously come under heavy public criticism over his political views, admitted to his own past mistakes but said his focus now is to help foster a culture of mutual respect in the country’s political discourse.
