The North East Council of State Member, Chief Saaka Abuba, is urging the Minister of Interior to lift the recent curfew imposed on Walewale and its surrounding areas.

The Ministry of Interior has the authority to impose curfews under certain circumstances, typically in consultation with local leaders and security agencies.

On the back of this, Chief Abuba has argued that imposing a curfew in a peaceful area is unnecessary and that providing escorts for travelers on the N10 route would be a more effective way to protect lives.

“If I was having the chance to sit with the regional minister, my advice to the regional minister would have been that they should get us the security to be giving us escorts. I don’t think Walewale needs curfew. We only need escorts from where the incident is happening to the outskirts and not curfew,” he said.

Chief Abuba stressed that he has been unhappy with the curfew announcement and is pleading with the interior minister to reverse the decision and lift the curfew.

“I have not been happy at all since yesterday. So, my plea will go to the interior minister to just lift the curfew because the problem is not coming from Walewale,” he said.
