Founded in 1917 in Chicago by visionary Melvin Jones, Lions Clubs began with a simple yet revolutionary idea: that those blessed with resources, influence, and opportunity should dedicate themselves to the upliftment of others. Our five global causes—Vision, Hunger, the Environment, Diabetes, and Childhood Cancer—are not vague commitments. They are urgent calls to action. They define our footprint:

Take the Tema General Hospital Eye Clinic, for example—a project that has given the gift of sight to thousands. Eye screenings, surgeries, and the provision of state-of-the-art equipment are all coordinated by passionate Lions working with medical experts and partners. Even more monumental is the Lions International Eye Centre at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, financed by Moorfields Eye Centre UK, Lions International, and the Government of Ghana—an investment of 3 million euros. It stands not only as a physical facility but as a monument to what compassion, collaboration, and vision can achieve.
In the Ashanti Region, the Diabetes Foot Project is rewriting health outcomes. Too often, a diabetic foot—left unattended—becomes a death sentence. Lions are changing this narrative through early intervention, awareness creation, and treatment. Lives are being saved, and communities are being educated.
