President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, to take part in the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The high-level meeting, chaired by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to drive forward West Africa’s regional integration agenda. Leaders are expected to agree on key policy actions to strengthen peace, security, and development across the sub-region.
This year’s summit coincides with ECOWAS’ 50th anniversary celebrations, held under the theme “Stronger Together, For a Brighter Future.”
One of the major issues on the agenda is the status of the three member states from the Alliance of Sahelian States, who have withdrawn from the regional bloc. Their departure poses a critical challenge to ECOWAS’ unity and cooperation goals, and leaders are expected to deliberate on possible resolutions.
