Mahama focusing on political persecution instead of the promised jobs for the boys — Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to focus on creating jobs for the youth instead of what he described as the persecution of political opponents.

He reminded the President that his four-year mandate is already counting down and warned that if care is not taken, he could spend his entire term targeting opponents while leaving the youth unemployed.

Speaking at Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 25, during the vetting of Food and Agriculture Minister-designate, John Dumelo, the Effutu MP accused the President’s advisers of steering him towards political witch-hunts.

“President [Mahama’s] mandate is up to 2028. The four years started counting from the 7th of January 2025, so there is no time. Those handlers who have been advising him to chase political opponents need to be told that it’s about jobs for the people, not persecution of opponents, because the persecution seems to have started, but the jobs for the people — not yet,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin’s comments appear to reference recent government actions, including the establishment of the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) preparation committee, aimed at supporting President Mahama’s anti-corruption agenda.

Some former NPP appointees have also been invited by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to answer questions relating to alleged corruption and other related matters.
