Mahama indecisive, hasn’t even been able to complete the 60 ministers he promised — Haruna Mohammed

A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama, describing him as indecisive and no different from his first term.

Before winning the 2024 election, then-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mahama, promised to run a lean and efficient government with just 60 ministers—significantly fewer than the over 100 appointed by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

Over 120 days into his presidency, Mr. Mahama has so far appointed 56 ministers, with four more yet to be named.

While some NDC communicators have praised this as a step toward fulfilling the president’s promise, the NPP says it rather reflects failure.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show on Friday, May 16, Haruna Mohammed said the president’s delay in completing his ministerial list is a clear sign of indecision.

“He promised us that he’s going to appoint 60 ministers. Today, he has 56 ministers. Because of his indecisiveness, he could not complete the list within the stipulated time. It is over 120 days,” he said.

He went on to contrast President Mahama’s leadership with that of former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he praised for his political maturity.

“Let me tell you, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia—when it comes to leadership and guidance in Ghanaian politics—has no match,” he asserted.
