Mahama will end ‘persecution disguised as prosecution’ witnessed under Akufo-Addo regime – Presidential Staffer

Presidential Staffer Beatrice Annan has assured Ghanaians that President John Mahama will usher in a new era of democracy, prioritizing justice over personal vendettas.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Madam Beatrice Annan criticized the previous government’s approach, alleging that former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame personalized and internalized cases, leading to persecution disguised as prosecution.

She specifically cited Godfred Dame’s handling of the former CEO of COCOBOD Stephen Opuni trial, where lawyers for Opuni claimed that Dame met with Justice Dotse, a judge handling the case.

She questioned Godfred Dame’s motives, saying, “Godfred Dame wanted conviction so much that he doesn’t mind calling a supreme court judge in an office… anytime his professional conduct comes up and he is being called out for who he is, he is quick to hide under the court.”

She emphasized the importance of justice being seen to be done, stating, “Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done… even if the heavens fall, so that we say that it is better for thousand guilty people to be walking the street than for one innocent person to be behind bars.”

She also accused Godfred Dame of threatening to transfer judges who ruled against him, citing the Opuni case as an example.

“I think that Godfred Dame has a lot of questions to answer… if I were him, I will reserve my energy for answering questions and not be beating around the bush,” she said.

Her comments follow the controversy surrounding Godfred Yeboah Dame’s tenure as Attorney General.
