Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has taken a swipe at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
Reports indicate that the GBA has passed a resolution calling on President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
At its Mid-Year Conference held in Accra on Saturday, April 26, members of the Bar expressed disappointment with the suspension after reviewing details of the three petitions filed for the Chief Justice’s removal, according to Thelawplatform.online.
Reacting in a social media post on Monday, April 28, Dr. Apaak described the association as a seasonal one that only finds its voice when the NDC is in power.
He stressed that President Mahama, who he said is acting based on constitutional provisions regarding the petitions, will not be distracted by the GBA.
“President John Dramani Mahama will not be distracted by a Seasonal Association, which only finds its voice when the NDC is in power. If the GBA believes he has broken any laws, the courts are there,” he wrote.
In an earlier post on Saturday, Dr. Apaak said it was most unreasonable for any group to demand that a President abandon his constitutional duty.
He asserted that the GBA should rather applaud President Mahama for acting within the law instead of demanding a reversal of the suspension.
“It is most unreasonable for any group to demand of a President to jettison his constitutional duty. President Mahama has not violated any law or done anything untoward in his handling of the petitions against the Chief Justice. The GBA should rather applaud President Mahama,” he stated.
