The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has admonished the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to forget about any plans to scrap the nursing and teacher trainee allowance.
In a press release signed by NDC National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, it said the group is gobsmacked to notice the intention to cancel teacher and nursing training allowances in flagrant contrast to their promise to rather be prompt on payments during the 2024 elections campaign.
The group argued that this amounts to deception and smacks of a scam as these students fell for the promises of the NDC and voted massively for the same.
In its release, the NDC National Youth Wing urged the NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama to maintain the nursing and teacher trainee allowance.
“We demand the government to act in truth and good spirit and maintain the allowances, not just because it was their campaign promise, but how the students benefit from same,” the group said in its release.
The release added, “It is lame to argue that, this government wants to cancel the allowances and rather improve the students” loan facility for all students across third cycle educational institutions. The fact is that, teacher and nursing training schools remain COLLEGES and have not been given university statuses which would have made the government’s argument sensible.”
Meanwhile, the NDC Youth Wing has urged nursing and teacher trainees to rise and oppose any move to cancel their allowance.
