The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour, has called for a legal framework to regulate the 24-Hour Economy Policy to prevent corruption.
According to the MP, all entrepreneurship programs launched by the government must have legal backing with clearly stated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to serve as a guide for project leaders.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, the MP emphasized that this move will help prevent any acts of corruption that could mar these policies.
He urged the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, to take steps to make available to the House the legal framework governing all entrepreneurship programs, including the 24-Hour Economy and the Adwumawura Program, which were approved in this year’s budget.
The MP noted that various entrepreneurship programs have been run in the country with significant funding, but often the results are difficult to measure, and scandals have emerged due to the lack of a legal framework governing them.
He emphasized that his call for a legal framework is informed by past experiences where the country has lost investments due to poorly managed programs without legal backing.
Lawyer Baffour believes that with a clear legal framework in place, the government can better measure the success of these programs and prevent corruption.
