The sudden rise of Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, against His Excellency John Mahama, is not something new to Ghanaians. Amidu, who resigned from the worst government in Ghana’s political history, under the leadership of Akufo Addo, now lives in the shadows of Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jacobs. The same sentiments of rage, hatred, envy, and bitterness that drove those men to rebel against Mahama are the same symptoms that are being exhibited by the bitter heart of Amidu.
Martin Amidu informed Ghanaians that Akufo Addo, the man who appointed him, is the “mother serpent of corruption,” who had become a stumbling block on his path and preventing him from carrying out his duties to prosecute corrupt politicians. As a writer who criticized the former Special Prosecutor, it was only after his resignation that I realized he went through psychological torture at the hands of Akufo Addo, just because he wanted to fight against corruption in a better way.
However, during the eight wasteful, excruciating years of the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration, Martin Amidu, who was in Ghana, couldn’t prevent the Akufo government from engaging in major money laundering and corruption scandals. He was a witness to the NPP’s attacks and destroying non-NPP companies in the process, but couldn’t do anything about it. More significantly, Martin Amidu witnessed the illegal printing of currency without the approval of parliament to collapse the economy.
I would like to know why Martin Amidu failed to stop the disasters that wrecked Ghana, which forced the NPP administration out in December 2024, if he genuinely cared about the welfare of the people and loved Ghana. I don’t understand why Mr. Amidu couldn’t assist Ghanaians in fending off the state capture that led to the plundering of Ghana’s resources, lands, and properties, while today he fights hard against the newly appointed John Mahama, who took office less than three months ago.
I see Martin Amidu living in the shadows of former NDC politicians like Allotey Jacobs and Koku Anyidoho. Similar to Amidu’s outburst against Mahama, Jacobs and Ayidoho embarked on the same destructive journey, attacking nonstop and releasing ludicrous and misleading propaganda to ensure that Mahama would never again be elected president of Ghana. In fact, both men acknowledged that Bawumia would win the 2024 election when they promoted the former vice president.
I used to believe that Martin Amidu is a clever and honest man, until I learned that he takes on multiple personas in political arenas. It is unfounded for him to attack Kissi Agyebeng, the present Special Prosecutor, but he did that since he was unable to accuse anyone while in office, yet Agyebeng was able to declare Mahama innocent of corruption in connection with the Airbus scandal, for which he was not officially charged. Amidu became furious and attacked someone who had outperformed him.
I frequently question why Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jocons would treat Mahama in such a despicable manner without taking into account the possibility of future events altering the course of events. I wrote articles telling the two men to stop attacking him, and I recall asking Mr. Jacobs how his children felt about his treatment of Mahama. Is it possible for Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jacobs to decline appointments from Mahama eventually when he won the 2024 election?
After the resentment, betrayal, envy, and hatred of Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jacobs dissipated, Martin Amidu has emerged as another ugly demon standing against the progress of Mahama, after watching Ghana’s once-thriving economy collapse. The man who bowed down in shame and wasn’t tough enough to take on Akufo Addo in his fight against corruption has now engaged in rebellious attacks on a new president who took office only a few weeks ago without breathing space.
What exactly is Martin Amidu hoping to get from John Mahama, money or an appointment? I can’t explain this, but if he is seeking a position, is assaulting the new president the appropriate course of action, or is that how to start? The corrupt and incompetent Akufo Addo was forced to give his “State of Nation Address” (SONA) by Ghanaians, but Mahama did it with ease. Therefore, Mr. Amidu, why is the SONA of the new government “the preparations for their turn to eat from the public purse?
Unaware that Martin Amidu is much worse than Akufo Addo, I once thought he was one of the brightest thinkers who had significantly changed Ghanaian politics. Like many Ghanaian politicians, pastors, church leaders, and other people who were raised and fed under the former corrupt and state-captured governance of the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration, Martin Amidu is a nation-wrecker. I’m very sorry that everything he has accomplished in life is now in the gutters right in front of us.
I will never feel sorry for Martin Amidu for living in the shadows of destruction as Koku Anyidoho and Allotey Jacobs. In life, if you harbor resentment toward someone you despise, he succeeds, and the person who hates him fails. It is up to President Mahama to prove Martin Amidu wrong, if he claims that his SONA is a prelude to the NDC’s time to spend public funds.
