Games involving Manchester United have been difficult to watch this season, with the Red Devils often flattering to deceive.
However, ahead of United’s tie against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday, the off-field feud between former player Nemanja Matic and Andre Onana has got fans on the edge, anxiously awaiting the tie.
United take on Lyon in France on Thursday for the first leg of the Europa League quarter final tie before returning to Old Trafford next week for the decider.
Although United’s form this season has been concerning, goalkeeper Andre Onana has asserted that his team, who lie 13th in the Premier League, are “way better” than fifth placed Lyon in Ligue 1.
Onana’s comments sparked the heated feud, with Nemanja Matic slamming the goalkeeper in turn ahead of the game, labeling him as “one of the worst” in United’s history.
“If you’re one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history, then you need to take care of what you are talking about,” Matic told reporters on Wednesday.
Onana hit back on X: “We know that tomorrow’s m atch will be tough against a strong opponent. We are focused on delivering a performance that pleases our fans, he said.
“At least I have won titles with the greatest club in the world; some cannot say the same,” he added.
Onana’s post is perceived to be aimed at Matic, who spent five seasons at United without a trophy.
