Maxwell Konadu steps down as Black Leopards coach

Former Nsoatreman head coach Maxwell Konadu has relinquished his role as head coach of South African outfit Black Leopards, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure.

The 52-year-old tactician who signed a contract until June 2027 tendered in his resignation to the club’s hierarchy on Sunday, in the aftermath of Leopards’ 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leruma United.

Konadu, who took the reins at the Venda-based side in July 2024, arrived with lofty expectations due to his vast experience in Ghana’s national team setup.

Having served as an assistant coach of the Black Stars in two seperate stints, 2012-13 and 2014-2019, Konadu’s appointment was seen as a coup for Leopards.

However, despite his impressive pedigree, Konadu struggled to translate his experience into tangible results on the pitch. The team’s underwhelming performance ultimately led to his axing.

After 17 league outings, Maxwell Konadu’s tenure has yielded a mixed bag of results, comprising six victories, six defeats, and five stalemates. During this period, Leopards have shipped 21 goals while scoring 20, accumulating 23 points to occupy 10th spot in the standings.

Konadu’s primary objective was to steer the team to promotion from the lower division to the Premier Soccer League, but he departs with Leopards languishing in 10th position on the league log, a staggering 11 points adrift of table-toppers Durban City FC.
