Maxwell Konadu urges patience for Otto Addo amid Black Stars rebuild

Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has called on Ghanaians to be patient with head coach Otto Addo as he works to rebuild the national team.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Konadu addressed the often fluctuating reactions of football fans in Ghana, particularly after recent disappointments such as missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Ghanaians love football. When things go well, you’re celebrated, but when they don’t, the country becomes divided. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the game now,” Konadu remarked.

He emphasized the need for patience with Otto Addo, though he acknowledged how challenging that can be in today’s fast-paced football environment.

“We just need to be patient sometimes , but how many people today are willing to wait? This generation doesn’t have that patience,” he added.

Otto Addo recently secured consecutive victories over Chad and Madagascar in March, results that have begun to restore confidence in his leadership and improve Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

“It’s not just in Ghana ,even in other countries, there’s pressure. But when professionalism steps in, things are viewed a bit differently. Now that the team is winning, I don’t think the coach will have too many issues going forward,” Konadu concluded.

Maxwell Konadu remains optimistic that continued success will ease the pressure on the coach and help stabilize the national team’s journey.
