The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma Central in the Greater Accra Region, Frank Nkansah, on May 30, 2025, engaged with roadside mechanics and traders within the municipality to address issues related to the indiscriminate parking of broken-down vehicles along road shoulders.
During the engagement, Nkansah issued a five-day ultimatum to mechanics and traders to remove all vehicles and goods encroaching on the roads.
He warned that failure to comply will result in a decongestion operation, during which any vehicle found parked on the road shoulders would be towed at a penalty of GH¢5,000 with no room for reduction or negotiation.
He also called on mechanic shop owners who have not yet paid their operational permits to do so before the deadline or face further sanctions.
Nkansah explained that the decongestion exercise follows numerous complaints from residents and road users about mechanics taking over some residential streets within the municipality.
He noted that although similar complaints were made to his predecessor, no action was taken.
He assured the public that, under his leadership, the municipality would become a clean and safe place to live.
As part of his inspection, Nkansah stopped by a retail beverage shop that had encroached upon the pedestrian walkway and issued a stern warning, stressing that the municipal task force will regularly monitor compliance.
The MCE also visited parts of the Kaneshie Market areas that fall within his jurisdiction and issued a similar five-day ultimatum to traders occupying pavements and roadside spaces to vacate or face eviction.
In addition, Nkansah visited the Takoradi Station, where he engaged with station leadership on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the area.
Earlier in the day, Nkansah toured a slum area near the International Central Gospel Church, where he issued a strong warning to squatters against dumping refuse, stating that anyone found violating sanitation laws will face the full consequences of the law.
