Minority demands immediate sanction against Sammy Gyamfi over viral cash video

The Minority in Parliament has called for immediate sanction against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi over the viral video which showed him giving out cash in US dollar to evangelist, Nana Agradaa.

The video stirred widespread backlash from Ghanaians who demanded action to be taken against Sammy Gyamfi. He has since apologised for his conduct.

At a press conference in Parliament on Monday, May 12, the Minority said the action by Sammy Gyamfi amounts to flouting the Code of Conduct by the President for his officials.

Speaking to the media, MP for Walewale, Dr. Mahama Kabiru noted that a full scale investigation must be conducted into the matter to determine the source of the dollars displayed by Sammy Gyamfi.

“We in the Minority are calling for the immediate sanctioning of Sammy Gyamfi as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. A full-scale investigation into the source of the dollar bundles displayed in the viral video,” he stated.

Dr. Kabiru said the conduct by Sammy Gyamfi not only violates the Code of Conduct for state officials but also against the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723).

“Aside from the Code of Conduct for appointees, other financial and monetary laws have been challenged by the actions of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi. The Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723) proscribes under Section 3(1) & (4) a person engaging in the business of dealing in foreign exchange without a license issued under this Act,” the Minority said.

Dr. Kabiru also avers that Sammy Gyamfi’s act is an offense under section 26 of the Currency Act 1964 (Act 242), which prohibits the circulation of foreign coins or notes.

They, therefore want ” an apology from the Presidency to the Ghanaian people for the insult this act represents to those suffering under this failed economy.”

“Let it not be said that this Parliament was silent in the face of such brazenness. We will not look on while public office is desecrated and the Ghanaian people reduced to beggars in their own country,” they added.
